TENDINOPATHIES

Physiotherapy is vital in the treatment for tendinopathies, using targeted exercises to rebuild tendon strength, improve flexibility, manage pain, and encourage normal movement patterns. This promotes long-term healing through active rehabilitation and load management rather than just passive treatments.

Initial assessment will focus on diagnosis and identifying key issues and contributing factors. Subsequent follow up sessions will guide you through progressive strengthening and stretching, provide manual therapy and taping to offload and support where appropriate, and educate you on activity modification and injury prevention.

Key approaches to treating a tendinopathy can include:

  • Progressive loading Gradually increasing stress on the tendon through specific exercises to stimulate repair and remodelling.

  • Eccentric exercises Focus on the lengthening phase of muscle contraction to reduce thickness and promote tissue repair, supported by strong research.

  • Isometric Exercise Static holds that help reduce pain while gently loading the tendon.

  • Manual Therapy Soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, and stretching to improve mobility and reduce pain.

  • Education and Biomechanics Analysing movement patterns and providing advice on activity modification to address underlying causes and prevent recurrence.
